Dale, I need a tuning laptop. 15" screen, minimum 6hr (ACTUAL) battery lift, serial port card thing, touch pad mouse (not that little pressure point crap), and it has to be really fast to run AEM TUNER (series 2 boxes) which is a very slow program compared to AEM Pro (series 1).
We've had several laptops, all more than $750, all built by nerds that promised they were hot shit. We've been through about 5 of them; they take a beating. They always always have connection issues with the serial crap, they always freeze, especially at the track when I'm trying to set up your 2 step when you are two cars back in line from a ten second pass. The only computer that has worked great is the $200 one that Kunt put together for us. Awesome battery life (7-8hrs) and has been reliable, but its too slow for the newer software, takes forever to load.
The ones we've had:
-terrible battery life after a year, like less than two hours, pathetic
-freeze and get blue screens. Nerds always tell me user error, I want one that is pretty hard to user error into a blue screen. I don't get any user errors when I run my mac, ever.
-connection issues with serial. Cannot find driver? WTF? Seriously?
-computer works great but can't connect to internet or I'm warned by nerd that it might stop working. Its 2010 folks, I don't think its toooooo much to ask for a computer to be able to turn on AND connect to the internet all at the same time. Its not like I'm asking it to pat its head and rub its stomach at the same time here
Tell me there is a quality laptop out there. I mean, something that feels like it wasn't put together by chrysler, you know, like a reasonable construction, good battery life, and no bugs. We're willing to save up and pay for it, if it lasts. I know you hate macs, but I want a PC that works as well and as long as my mac. But I can't use my mac for tuning. You gave us our challenge I'm giving you yours.
Ian
